Where should I go for assistance with a PTSD claim? I was told on another site not to try to go it alone, as the VA is designed to make you give up out of frustration. I was refered to the VFW and the American legion, VFW claims "we don't do that stuff", and American legion is just a non profit beer joint. I called and was told "I'm just a bartender. I don't even know what you're talking about."

Have you tried this link:
http://www1.va.gov/directory/guide/home.asp?isFlash=1
You should be able to find a Regional office, Medical Center/clinic there. I would try calling your local Medical Center.

Also, if you find your town's .gov address you should able to find your Veterans' Service Officer, or you could personally go to your town hall, he or she should have an office and should be able to provide you with some care.

Lastly, this is the VA's website for PTSD: (which you may have found already)

Since being diagnosed in 1982; I have been prescribed just about every mood stabiliser; etc; known to man kind . EvERY time I get a new one ; I pump the name etc into my computer looking for possible side effects etc;. I actually find that obtaining a decent night's sleep is very important to how I feel and react the next day , to other folk.. When 1st diagnosed ; a panel of quacks at a place called HEIDELBERG REHABILITATION HOSPITAL, described me as"CHRONIC". IT is an odd disorder though; as I know of many combat vets , who disclose NO Symptoms , at all.Much of the "stress", came from very long ops of 3 4 5 6 7 weeks; then a short break ; knowing that in less than 4 days ; the whole thing would be repeated. Then if there was little action where we were sent; being choppered out to somewhere else. Bloody place was a nightmare.

Just a country boy from Bathurst N.S.W. Bathurst was the first major town established after the mountain range [ known as the great dividing range was crossed]; It is now a CITY.
